On September the 4th, during a Sark Grand Lodge visit to Sark lodge 3025, a presentation was made to Bro. Sir Geoff Gurden, R.O.H. to mark his departure from our shores to his new pastures on the mainland. He was presented with two paintings by an artist for whom he has a passion and a card signed by all the brothers of the Sark Province. As you can imagine many words were said but all are not printable. Bro Sir Harry Southern R.O.H. spoke for the lodge. He referred to his 20 years in the order and the fact that he holds Grand Treasurers office showed a true commitment to the order. He had always been prepared to go the extra mile for our lodge and indeed was the delegate who took forward proposals for our Grand Lodge and Knights Chapter to be formed. Other Brothers thanked him for his help in dragging them up to the standard required for raisings, a few clips around the ears were his main way of getting the message across. What will we miss about Geoff...his organizing ability? His smile (now that he has a full set of ivories again). His sense of humour...sometimes! and of course his registration dues...up to another lodge to get his pennies out of his pocket no mean task. At an island wide function which was held later in the week the lodge were able to thank him publicly. He was also thanked by the Sark theatre group for his huge involvement, now we know where his ability to perform in lodge came from! Our lodge will become a much quieter place, we will miss Bro Geoff. We really hope you can put up with him on the mainland, we know it will be a struggle but please try. From all the Brethren of Sark we wish the very best of luck to both Geoff and Brenda on their move and hope that they settle in well. Perhaps their new accommodation could be become the hostel for when conference is in skeggy!! Bro Geoff will be returning to Sark in September 2007 to assist in raisings, permission will be sought, this is you’re advance warning that Sark will welcome all Brothers for another of our famous weekends.
